What inspired you to start your journey:

Thinking back on what may have sparked inspiration for my hooping journey is going to music festivals as a youngster with my parents. We went to a few festivals at Spirit of the Suwannee and that was when I first saw a hoop dancer. Fast forward to 2013, 18 year old me was biking around a small downtown arts & crafts festival when I spotted a hoop vendor. I was drawn to a large 34” Rasta taped hoop and rode all the way home with it on my bike. At the time I was physically and mentally going through a very trying period in my young adult life. I started shifting my energy towards hula hooping. I would go in my front yard in the sunshine and on-body hoop for hours, until I was full on sweating. The euphoria, excitement and curiosity that ignited from this hoop amazed me. It truly gave me a safe place to express myself freely, and encouraged me to get out of bed in the morning. As I continued going to music festivals as an adult, I felt so comfortable and confident with my hoop in hand. I fell in love with the community and the light that it radiated. Music also is a huge inspiration to me, moving my body in ways that the music makes me feel is so healing!

A little bit more about Jordyn:

Something that I am also passionate about is drawing. I am an artist that has been working towards developing a portfolio to one day become a tattoo artist. I love painting or drawing anything to do with nature(mushrooms, pine cones, plants). I live with my fiancé, Nick, in Colorado and we have an orange kitty named Leo and a golden retriever named June Bug -whom are our babies. I have always been called to find compassion for all living creatures big & small from horses, people, dogs, squirrels to insects! I spent 5 years being a Veterinary Technician and helped heal fur babies. My love language is making people an awesome spotify playlist. I’m an astrology lover and find a lot of clarity in understanding the universe around me. Water is where I feel the most at peace, I grew up swimming in the Florida springs, rivers and gulf. You can find me happiest while sewing, camping, creating, frolicking in the forest, hooping, swimming and smooching dogs noseys.

What is your favorite music genre to flow to?

My favorite music genre to flow to varies with how I am feeling each day. I love anything from DnB, electronic trance, house, pop punk, hip-hop, lofi, indie, metal, reggae, jamtronica to bluegrass.

Do you flow with any other props? If so what are some of your other favorites?
I flow with a fire hoop, fire fans and dragon staff. I will try any prop I can get my hands on! Each time I learn a trick it feels like I am conquering my fears and proving to myself I can do anything I practice at!
